Oblivion - Movie Review

I watched Oblivion at Robinsons Galleria. The film is directed by the same guy who did Tron: Legacy, which I really enjoyed.

It felt like a classic sci-fi film. I find modern sci-fi films are generally action or disaster films with sci-fi elements. There is nothing wrong with that, I love most of them. But when I think of sci-fi as a genre, I've always felt that it was a genre that allowed story tellers to delve into concepts and subjects that otherwise aren't handled often. I felt a hint of that while watching this film. Perhaps it was just the contemplative shots of Tom Cruise looking out at the emptiness around him, the dream sequences or the music but I felt there was an underlying feeling of something not being right...I felt like I was watching an old fashion sci-fi movie. I liked that the main character seemed conflicted in terms of what he was being told the world was like and what he felt and experienced.

I loved the music, the visuals were amazing as well. The story, although a bit predictable, was functional and kept my interest throughout the film.
